In showbiz, a lot of the performers are looking out for ways by which their works can be validated in order for them to have the zeal to push and do more important stuffs.
The music and movie industries which have dominated the entertainment industry both have awards schemes instituted to reward and appreciate the hard work of the various actors, actresses and musicians.
Whiles there’s the Oscars for the movie industry, there is the Grammys for the music industry. These two award schemes are considered the most powerful in both industries and all performers are aiming at getting their works recognized by them one day. There are other small local awards schemes for the performers.
The Grammys has become one awards scheme that has eluded Ghanaian singers for a long while now. The country with a sea of hardworking artistes can only boast of some few nominations with no award plaque to show for it.
Reggae star, Rocky Dawuni has been the only Ghanaian whose solo works have been recognized by the Grammys. Others such as Fuse ODG and Stonebwoy have been recognized for the role they played in the albums of other artistes who got nominated in the Grammys.
The inability of Ghanaian artistes to make it to the Grammys like their Nigerian counterparts has led to a heated debate in recent times among fans as to how to unravel the mystery behind this.
Just recently when Nigerian singers Burna Boy and Wizkid won the awards, their Ghanaian counterparts came under bashing from the fans. Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Samini and some of the industry finest were bashed by fans for not been able to get to the Grammys.
One of Africa’s best rappers of all time, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie has settled the debate on why Ghanaian artistes are not getting the mentions at the Grammys.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM to promote his new album, No Pressure, a question regarding winning the Grammys came through.
Sarkodie brilliantly took his time to dissect the issues into bits for the fans to understand. He mentioned among other things that he is not bothered that he has not won an award at the Grammys yet.
Sarkodie revealed that most Nigerian artistes have the promotion of their stuffs paramount and the Nigerian fans are also pushing only their artistes to get the mentions at the top. Something, he said the Ghanaian entertainers lack.
He added that what Ghanaian artistes are able to achieve with our relatively small number, other countries can’t boast of same. Sarkodie therefore added that Ghanaian fans should be appreciative of what the musicians are doing and stop always looking for the negative sides to hit.
Sarkodie is regarded as the best rapper of all time in Ghana by a lot of music fans and pundits. He has been able to penetrate the African market with his raps which he mostly performs in his native language of twi.
The Tema based rapper is currently promoting his new album, No Pressure which is fast gaining traction on social media. Sarkodie has featured a couple of artistes across the continent on the album.
The careful selection of the artistes on the album has been praised by a lot of industry players. The likes of Shatta Wale and some of his greatest rivals have been tweeting and promoting the album.
There seems to be a very bright light at the end of the tunnel as the artistes themselves are beginning to push the agenda of promoting the Ghanaian entertainers. Watch Sarkodie make his views known in the video below.
