Some residents of a suburb of Takoradi are currently receiving their dose of the negative impact of illegal mining popularly known as Galamsey through their taps.
The residents have flooded social media with videos showing brownish water coming out of their taps instead of the normal clear, colourless water.
One of the residents, Adwoa Dzibuodi took videos of her tap and shared same with her followers on social media.
Galamsey has become a heated topic in recent days with prominent voices such as that of the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu being the latest to lend his support to the fight against the menace.
The impact of the activities of Galamsey is dire and apart from the destruction of the forest reserves and arable farmlands, it is having a devastating effect on the water bodies.
The residents along rivers where the illegal activity is being carried out are facing serious life threatening ailments as a result of drinking contaminated water.
Some social media users have taken the opportunity to call on the authority to put their feet on the ground and fight this canker.
