Ghost-writing in music has been an issue for many artistes around the globe. The term is loosely used to describe people who write for artistes who can’t write their own songs.
It’s mostly used with a derogatory intent, and as such it is used mostly during a lyrical beef. Professionally, it is not a bad practice to have someone writes for an artiste to sing.
But our quest to find who is the better artiste over the other has pushed many into denying that they have songwriters who normally write lyrics for them to sing.
Some of the biggest artistes worldwide have hired the services of songwriters before and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the practice.
When it comes to the Ghana music industry, there are notable names that readily comes to mind when the issue of songwriting comes is mentioned.
Bullet and Akwaaboah are the most popular songwriters in Ghana music today with the latter been credited for hit songs such as “Daa ke Daa” by Becca among others.
But most of the artistes who are beneficiaries of the services of these songwriters normally deny them just like Judas did to Jesus when they’re asked.
Rufftown Records signee, Wendy Shay has made a damning revelation concerning artistes whose songs are mostly written for them by songwriters.
According the leader of the “Shay Gang”, majority of the female artistes in the country have ghostwriters who writes the hit songs music fans enjoy everyday on the streetfor the artistes.
Taking to her Twitter handle, the “Uber driver” crooner wrote that she is the only one who is normally criticized when it comes to ghost-writing, especially when she drops a hit song. She revealed that a good number of the female artistes in the country have songwriters.
She wrote: “Almost every female artiste in Ghana has a songwriter but nobody really cares who writes for them But anytime Wendy Shay drops a Heat song they want to credit everything to the so called songwriter Ghana wake up !”
Her comment comes on the back her recent social media backlash from some fans over her songs.
It’s an open secret that the manager and CEO of Rufftown Records, Bullet is the brain behind Wendy Shay’s hit songs. He is a well accomplished musician and an experienced songwriter who has been writing for his artistes including the late Ebony.
Wendy’s revelation has dented the reputation of these big girls in the music industry as most of them have been denying that they have ghostwriters.
It even came as a heated topic when the beef involving Sista Afia, Freda Rhymez and Eno Barony when Eno alleged that Medikal was the ghostwriter for Sista Afia. But as usual it was gladly rubbished by Sista Afia.
Wendy Asiamah Addo popularly known as Wendy Shay is a professional nurse who practiced in Germany as a midwife before coming to Ghana to pursue her music career. She has been active since 2018 when she was signed by Bullet of Rufftown Records to replace the late Ebony.
She has lived up to expectations by Ghanaian standards. She has a lot of accolades to her name in her less than four years in the music industry.
