The city authorities at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly have come under severe bashing on social media after it came out that they were ordering for the demolition of a 15-storey building in the airport residential area of the city.
The building which is towering in the plush area of Ghana’s capital is completed and parts of it have been occupied already.
But according to reports, the city authorities saw the building and order for its removal because, to them, it was not supposed to be cited there.
They allegedly explained that they were caught “off guard” during the construction – a reason why they couldn’t stop them from the initial stage of the construction.
Ghanaian social commentator and digital expert, Bright Simons posted a photo of the magnificent building on his official Twitter handle and people are showing their anger towards the city officials.
He captioned the photo, “The city government of Accra says they were caught completely off guard by this 15-storey tower in the plush airport district of the city. They have informed the developers to remove it quickly because according to their cadastral records, it isn’t supposed to be there.”

A lot of those who commented on the issue are blaming the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s authorities for their poor supervisory role with some calling for the officers involved to be fired for showing gross incompetence in their work.
Many are wondering how a huge building like the 15-storey can be situated at no mean an area but the plush airport residential area and city authorities couldn’t even get to stop them from the foundation level.
Others are also of the view that nothing will happen to any of the officers in charge of making sure that such buildings are not put at the unauthorized places due to how bad the leadership of the country have become in dealing with issues of this nature.
The numerous calls for those involved to be punished for sleeping on the job are in the right direction as it will serve as a deterrent to other Assemblies. We have compiled some few reactions from netizens in the following screenshots. Check them out below.
